Quartz countertops are not really solid quartz like many people assume. Instead, the quartz is crushed up and then mixed with a man made filler material which actually acts as the strength. Quartz tops are harder than granite and about twice as tough which means they can take more abuse. They also handle heat better since the base materials are formulated to deal with this problem. Repairing quartz is much easier as it is manufactured in a controlled environment so separate pieces will match each other.

Granite countertops are very beautiful as the minerals in the natural occurring stone impart geometric shapes and colors that almost seem other worldly. They are solid and waterproof along with being very easy to clean and stain resistant. The main draw back to a granite worktop is the fear of cracking or fissuring.Quartz countertops are not really solid quartz like many people assume.
