What this means is that if the item you are intending on shipping really belongs in a box with some padding around it, then find the smallest box you can that both the item and the padding fit in snugly. You also do not want anything too loose as this can cause them to slide around and get damaged as well.

For example, semi-flat and small items can easily and safely be shipped inside of a bubble envelope. But larger items need larger packaging. If you are only sending clothing, then do not forget to cover them in plastic to keep moisture off from them, but other then that the packaging is not as important as it would be when sending a plate or glass object.
